How to Play Taal Tiles
Tap the tiles, play the tune. Synthesized desi melodies. Never miss.
Taal Tiles is a piano tiles rhythm game with synthesized Indian melodies. Black tiles scroll down four lanes, and each tap on the correct tile plays the next note of the song. Tap the wrong lane or let a tile pass the bottom line and the tune stops. Tiles hit at the right moment count as perfect, which builds a combo and earns stars at the end of a song.
Four tunes are built in: Sa Re Ga Ma, the sargam ladder; Raghupati, the evening bhajan; a Filmi Riff; and Shaadi Beat, a fast baraat groove. Each can be played in Song mode, where you finish the tune for stars and coins, or Endless, where it loops and speeds up until you miss. Touch and keyboard both work.
Controls
- Touch: tap the black tile in its lane as it reaches the bottom line.
- Desktop: A, S, D, F or the four arrow keys map to lanes one to four.
- A tap with the tile centred on the bottom row counts as perfect.
- Tapping an empty lane is a wrong tap and ends the run.
How to play, step by step
- Pick a song, then Song or Endless mode.
- Tap the lowest black tile's lane; the note plays and the next tile activates.
- Time taps so the tile sits on the bottom row for perfect hits and combos.
- Speed ramps up as you progress, capping at 3 rows per second in Song mode.
- Finish for stars and coins, or after a miss watch an ad to rewind three tiles.
Rules and scoring
- A wrong lane or a tile passing the line ends the run.
- Perfect taps build the combo; a non-perfect hit keeps the song going but resets it.
- Stars: 85% perfect for 3, 55% for 2, else 1; coins are 30, 40 or 50.
- Endless caps at 3.8 rows per second; a new best pays 20 to 60 coins.
- The ad continue rewinds three tiles and resets the combo.
Tips to score higher
- Watch the next tile while your thumb hits the current one.
- Use two thumbs on a phone: left for lanes one and two, right for three and four.
- On desktop rest four fingers on A, S, D, F and never move them.
- Learn each song's shape; Sa Re Ga Ma climbs and descends predictably.
- Tap to the beat rather than early; perfect ratio decides the stars.
- Get 3 stars on Raghupati before attempting the fast Shaadi Beat.
Modes and challenges
- Song: finish a tune for 1 to 3 stars and 30 to 50 coins, best stars saved per song.
- Endless: the song loops with rising speed, scored by tiles tapped.
- Four songs: Sa Re Ga Ma, Raghupati, Filmi Riff, Shaadi Beat.
Frequently asked questions
What counts as a perfect tap?
The tile must be within half a row of the bottom hit line when you tap. Perfect taps build your combo and your perfect ratio, which sets the star rating at the end of a song.
How do I get 3 stars on a song?
You need at least 85% of your taps to be perfect. Play the song a few times to learn its lane pattern, then tap on the beat rather than as soon as a tile appears.
Does the continue restart the song?
No. Watching the ad rewinds the song by three tiles and you carry on with the same score. Your combo resets, and the option is offered once after each miss.
Are the songs real recordings?
No. The notes are synthesized in the browser from note names, so each tap triggers a short tone. That is why the tunes sound like a keyboard and the game loads instantly.
