How to Play Rishta
The desi family riddle. Chachi, bhanja, saala. Guess the rishta chain.
Rishta is a quiz about who is who in an Indian family. Each question shows a chain of relations drawn as avatars, for example Mummy's brother's daughter, and asks what that last person is to you. Four Hindi terms appear as options with short English meanings, and you pick the right one before the timer runs out. It is for anyone who has stood at a wedding wondering whether someone is a Mameri Behen or a Mausi.
The engine is a real kinship model, not a fixed question bank. It walks up to five hops through parents, siblings, spouses and children, then resolves the term for your own gender, because Sasur differs for a husband and a wife. Reverse questions give the term and ask for the chain. Everything is seeded, so the Daily Rishta is identical for everyone that day.
Controls
- Tap or click one of the four relation buttons under the chain.
- Meaning Hints toggle on the home screen shows or hides the English gloss under each term.
- The You Are toggle sets your gender so in-law terms resolve correctly.
- 50:50 removes two wrong options after a short ad, once per question.
How to play, step by step
- Pick Daily Rishta (10 chains, same for everyone), Streak Run (endless, 3 lives) or Challenge A Cousin (10 chains, share the link).
- Read the chain left to right. Each hop is papa, mummy, bhai, behen, beta, beti, pati or patni.
- Work out the last person's relation to you and tap it before the timer empties.
- In Daily, faster answers score more. In Streak Run, a wrong answer costs a life.
- After 10 chains in Daily, share your grid of fast, ok and miss marks.
Rules and scoring
- Timers: 8 seconds for 2-hop chains, 9 for 3, 10.5 for 4, 12 for 5. Reverse questions get 9, or 11 if marked hard.
- Daily scoring: 100 per correct answer plus up to 100 for time left. Streak Run: 10 points times a multiplier that rises every 5 streak, capped at 5x.
- Streak Run gives 3 lives; losing all ends the run with one ad revive available.
- Coins in Daily, once a day: 7 correct pays 20, 8 pays 30, 9 pays 40, a perfect 10 pays 60. Streak Run pays 10 per 5-streak, up to 40 per run.
Tips to score higher
- Resolve in pairs. Papa's brother is Chacha or Taya; Chacha's son is Chachera Bhai.
- Elder versus younger matters only for father's brothers: Taya elder, Chacha younger. Mother's brother is always Mama.
- Chains ending in pati or patni usually resolve to Bhabhi, Chachi, Mami, Bahu or Damaad, not a blood term.
- In Daily, tap instantly when you know it; a fast mark can double the points.
- In Streak Run, use the full timer when unsure, since a miss costs a life and the multiplier.
- Keep Meaning Hints on until your Relations Learned count is high, then turn them off.

Frequently asked questions
Why is the same term sometimes right and sometimes wrong?
Terms like Sasur, Jeth and Devar depend on your gender. Set the You Are toggle to match yourself.
What is the difference between Chachera and Fufera Bhai?
Chachera Bhai is your father's brother's son; Fufera Bhai is your father's sister's son. Mamera and Mausera are the mother's-side versions.
Can I retry the Daily?
Your Daily result is recorded once per day. Use Streak Run for unlimited practice and return tomorrow for a fresh set.
How does the challenge link work?
The link carries the seed and your score. A friend who opens it plays the identical 10 chains and sees your score to beat.
